SRD Status Approved But No Payment Date — What It Means and What to Do

Published: · Updated: · 5 min read . Last verified against the official SASSA SRD portal: February 2026 . Written by: Amy Smit

If your SASSA SRD status shows Approved but there is no payment date next to it, your eligibility has been confirmed, you passed all of SASSA's verification checks for that month. The outstanding issue is on the payment scheduling side, not the eligibility side.

This is more common than most people realise, and in many cases it resolves on its own within a few days. But there are also specific blockers that will prevent a payment date from ever being assigned until you take action. This page helps you tell the difference.

Why There Is No Payment Date Yet — Check Timing First

Before assuming something is wrong, check where you are in the month.

SASSA does not assign SRD payment dates at the start of the month. Payments are processed in batches during the last week of the month, typically between the 20th and 31st. If your status changed to Approved early in the month, a payment date may simply not have been scheduled yet, it is not delayed, it is just not time yet.

Reasons Your Payment Date Has Not Been Assigned

  1. Banking Details Not Verified or Incorrect

This is the most common reason a payment date is not assigned after approval. SASSA verifies your bank account before scheduling any payment. If your banking details cannot be verified — or were recently changed, payment scheduling is put on hold until verification completes.

    What to check:

    • Your account must be in your own name, accounts belonging to a family member, spouse, or third party will not be accepted
    • The account must be active and able to receive deposits
    • Your ID number must match the account holder name at your bank
    • If you recently updated your banking details, allow up to 7 working days for the changes to process before a payment date is assigned.

  2. No Payment Method Selected

Some applicants complete their application without selecting or confirming a payment method. Without a confirmed payment channel, SASSA cannot schedule a disbursement regardless of approval status.

  3. eKYC Biometric Verification Still Processing

From September 2025, SASSA requires biometric identity verification (eKYC) before payment can be released. Your status can show Approved while your eKYC result is still being processed. Until that verification clears, a payment date will not be assigned.

Check your eKYC status on the portal. If it shows Verification Pending, allow 48 to 72 hours and check again. The full verification process can take up to 21 working days. If you have not yet completed eKYC at all, that is the priority, complete your SASSA identity verification before anything else.

  4. Postbank Gold Card Not Upgraded

If your payment method is a Postbank account and you are still holding the old gold card, it is no longer active for SRD payments. SASSA moved to the black Postbank card and accounts linked to the old gold card will not receive payments until the card is replaced.

What to do: Visit your nearest Post Office with your ID document and request the card upgrade. This is free of charge.

  5. Account Inactive or Dormant

A bank account that has had no transactions for an extended period may be classified as dormant by your bank. SASSA cannot deposit into a dormant account and will not assign a payment date until an active, functioning account is confirmed.

What to do: Transact on your account to reactivate it, then confirm your banking details are current on the SRD portal.

  6. "Referred" Status After Approval

Some applicants see a Referred status alongside or after an approval. This means SASSA's system flagged a concern, usually a potential fraud or identity risk, that requires manual verification before payment is released.

A Referred status cannot be resolved online. You need to visit your nearest SASSA office in person with your ID document to complete a biometric verification. Once cleared, your payment date will be assigned.

  7. System Backlog

During high-volume months, SASSA's payment scheduling system can experience delays. This is outside your control. If none of the above reasons apply to your situation, a short wait is reasonable, check again after 3 to 5 working days.

What to Do — Step by Step

  • Check the date if it is before the 20th, wait until the end of the month before taking any action
  • Confirm your payment method is selected on the SRD portal
  • Verify your banking details are correct, active, and in your own name
  • Check your eKYC status if it is incomplete or still pending, address that first
  • If you use Postbank, confirm you have the black card, not the gold card
  • If your status shows Referred, visit your nearest SASSA office in person with your ID
  • If everything looks correct and it is past the 20th, call SASSA on 0800 60 10 11 and ask specifically about your payment date for the current approved month

How Long After a Payment Date Is Assigned Does Money Reflect?

Once SASSA assigns a payment date, funds typically reflect in your account within 2 to 3 working days from that date. If a payment date has been assigned but funds have not reflected after 3 working days, contact your bank first to confirm no deposit is pending, then follow up with SASSA on 0800 60 10 11.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • My status says Approved but I have not been paid — is something wrong?

Not necessarily. If it is before the 20th of the month, your payment date has likely not been scheduled yet, SRD payments are processed in the last week of the month. If it is past the 20th and there is still no date, work through the checklist above to identify the specific blocker.

  • How long does it take to get a payment date after being approved?

There is no fixed timeframe. Payment dates are assigned in batches during the final week of the month. Factors like banking verification and eKYC processing can delay scheduling. If all your details are correct and verified, your date should appear by the end of the month.

  • I updated my banking details — why is there still no payment date?

Banking detail changes take up to 7 working days to process and verify. If you changed your details recently, allow that time before expecting a payment date to be assigned.

  • My payment date was shown but money never arrived — what do I do?

Check with your bank first, sometimes deposits are pending or held. If your bank confirms nothing was received after 3 working days from your payment date, call SASSA on 0800 60 10 11 and report the missed payment for that month.

  • Can I change my payment method after being approved?

Yes, you can update your payment method on the SRD portal. Allow up to 7 working days after any changes before a new payment date is assigned.

  • What does "Referred" mean on my approved status?

It means SASSA flagged your record for manual verification before releasing payment. Visit your nearest SASSA office in person with your ID to complete biometric verification and have the referral cleared.
